Michael Hammond & David Remedios- Gone Before, Cont’d.

  • Becket Arts Center 7 Brooker Hill Road Becket, MA, 01223 United States (map)

$20 Suggested donation at the door.

David and I have been working the past few years on what I call, for lack of a better term, an audio memoir about my late friend and fellow musician, Steve Haferbier. It’s entitled Gone Before, Cont’d. I’ve written the story about my friendship and collaboration with Steve, and his suicide. For the purpose of illustration, or to support transitions and mood, David and I have added a lot of music that came from various sources, including excerpts of recordings made by Steve’s band, excerpts from a CD Steve and I recorded together entitled Gone Before (David mixed and mastered that CD, and played bass, too), and a variety of recorded riffs on my acoustic guitar. All the music has been recorded, but my text will be spoken live. There are other voices in the piece that have been recorded, though, including excerpts from interviews with family members and friends, and a couple of brief recordings of Steve’s spoken voice.

No ticket required - $20 suggested donation at the door

Michael Hammond is an actor, director, playwright, and teacher, who recently retired after ten years as an instructor at Boston University’s School of Theatre. Prior to Boston University, he worked for many years at Shakespeare & Company, last serving there as associate artistic director, and has recently resumed his position there as a member of the Company’s faculty. He has appeared as an actor on Broadway, and at various regional theaters. His last live pre-pandemic performance was part of a collaboration entitled The Cattle, presented at Douglas Dunn’s studio in New York City. He has been working lately on a series of recorded monologues spoken extemporaneously by this irascible character named Ezra, who just showed up in the middle of the night. Michael has been working sporadically on Gone Before, Cont’d for a few years now, and is very grateful to the folks at Becket Arts Center for giving him the opportunity to share the piece with an audience.
