Becket Arts Center Presents: "No Background Music" written and read by Normi Noel, A True story of an Army nurse’s time in the Vietnam war.
Written over a twelve-year period, the play is inspired by Noel’s conversations with Vietnam veteran Penny Rock, a journey the two took together to Vietnam, and letters and recordings Rock preserved from her tour of duty. No Background Music has enjoyed a notable history of performance. In 2005, Academy Award–nominated actor Sigourney Weaver performed the Penny Rock–inspired role in a BBC Radio broadcast. The following year, Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, Massachusetts, produced the play as part of its summer season. Now, Becket Arts Center is honored to bring this moving work to our community — a story of memory, resilience, and the voices that must be heard. Discussion and community sharing will follow the 1 hour reading.
This program is for adults only and may be upsetting to some audience members.
