Music Brings Communities Together: JoAnne Redding Trifecta

An Evening with The JoAnne Redding Trifecta

Regardless of the genre-- from jazz to blues and roots rock to country-- JoAnne Redding connects with her audiences with a gut-level honesty. An emotive song stylist, she has shared the bill with major acts including The Mavericks, Asleep at the Wheel, Hank Williams, Jr., and many others, lighting up stages from New Orleans to New England. Redding's How It Is album spent three months in the Top Ten of Roots Music Report's Blues Chart. She has been a guest speaker for the Connecticut Songwriters Association and a guest on radio and TV throughout the U.S. She was honored to perform her poignant song about older child adoption, "A Family to Love," at the Rhode Island State House one National Adoption Day. A veteran performer and songwriter, JoAnne's songs from her three albums were played on over 250 radio stations worldwide back in the pre-internet days, and they've been featured on TV and in film.

Benny "Fingers" Kohn is a Berkshire-based pianist, singer, and composer. From jazz to rock, from folk to funk, his versatility and skill is impressive. You can catch Benny playing solo and leading his own combos throughout the Berkshires and beyond.

Dave Christopolis is an upright and electric bass player who covers a diverse set of musical styles. On any given week, Dave is gigging with bluegrass outfits, backing up singer/songwriters, supporting a blues band, and working with jazz musicians in various combos throughout New England. My Evil Twin

My Evil Twin is an intimate, genre-bending musical starring identical twin opera singers Jim and John Demler – as Jim and John Demler. Funny, poignant, and adventurous, My Evil Twin exposes tenderness and vulnerability beneath masculine bravado as the twins tell the story of their lives in words and song in a tribute to sibling love.

The songs of My Evil Twin blend opera with elements of Broadway and pop, and provide the twins the chance to unleash their virtuosic basso voices with madcap energy and emotion. The witty, fast-moving book was developed in rehearsal with the twins themselves and with director Ron Bashford. The result is an exquisite, entertaining and totally out-of-the-box new kind of music theater.

The creative team of composer/lyricist Eric Sawyer and script writer Harley Erdman has collaborated across opera, musical theater, and stage drama over the past decade. Their opera The Scarlet Professor received the 2019 American Prize for best opera, with Ron Bashford’s direction. The pair has also collaborated on The Garden of Martyrs, an opera based on the 1806 murder accusation against two Irish immigrants that was performed in Northampton MA steps away from where the events took place, as well as on Wild Thing, Erdman’s translation of a classic Spanish play, presented at the Chamizai Festival in El Paso, Texas.

James Demler is known for his versatile range of repertory, spanning the operatic, oratorio, concert, and popular music genres. He made his film debut as Noah in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which opened the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. John Demler has performed operatic roles with the Spoleto Opera company in Italy and with Anchorage Opera in Alaska. He can also be heard on the recording of Sweeney Todd from Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic.

July &  August

Join us for a relaxed and welcoming weekly gathering where everyone is encouraged to explore their voice - no matter your experience or confidence level. Led by Paula Langton, a Certified Linklater Voice Teacher, these sessions offer a space to connect through the joy of singing.

We'll begin with gentle vocal warm-ups to ease into the session. Then, we'll dive into playful and collaborative singing, including harmonies, rounds, canons, and songs from various traditions. No sheet music and no pressure - just the shared experience of exploring our voices & making music together.

Come as you are, stay as long as you like, and leave when you need to. Whether you're a seasoned singer or just curious, you're welcome here.

Drop-in friendly. All voices welcome.

Rachel Kaufmann, a lesbian oil painter who has been painting since college. Her current work focuses on queer scenes from the Berkshires. “I am inspired by the work of Nicole Eisenman & the German Expressionists.”

Mitchell Sellers, a Quilt Artist who grew up in Georgia where he learned quilt-making from his grandmother & earned BFA at Georgia Southern University. Studied acting, improv, & dance, working in Chicago for 5+ years & toured with theatre companies. Lived in Boston 25 years & moved to Berkshires 3 years ago. Began quilt design as a hobby that grew into a passion.

Johanna Merfeld, As a mixed-media artist & art educator living & working in the Berkshires, she seeks to surround herself with fellow queer creatives. Christopher Pierce, is a nationally recognized fine artist who paints florals, still lifes, portraits, figures, & interiors with panache & a mature sensitivity.
