Channeling Rachel Carson—a Nature Love Story for Our Time with Diane Edgecomb
This empowering one-woman show shines light on the many ways we can find our way home to the wonder of the natural world. From the true North of Rachel Carson’s life work and the remote beauty of the Maine cottage where she wrote Silent Spring to channeling powerful memories of our own key nature experiences, this performance brings to life The Sense of Wonder Rachel wrote about so movingly at the end of her life. The ability to Wonder is a sense that brings renewal and a gift from those that take us by the hand and bring us back to our love and delight in nature. Oracle-award winning author and storyteller Diane Edgecomb weaves a hauntingly beautiful tale of her own journey of poignancy, joy and light.
This evocative performance is complemented by an immersive post-show gathering where writing exercises and prompts lead to the sharing of tales and experiences in nature.
Rachel Carson was the founding spirit of the environmental movement. Her accessible nature writings transformed the understanding of a generation. The Edge of the Sea, The Sea Around Us, and Silent Spring - the book that challenged the entire petrochemical industry - placed her as the foremost nature writer of her time and as a true visionary.
Tickets: $25
Member Tiered Pricing: $20/$15

About Diane Edgecomb
Nature has been at the heart of Diane Edgecomb’s storytelling for over thirty years. From reinvigorating Winter Solstice myths to original Eco-Tales that entertain as they educate, her unique performances have toured the US and internationally winning 5-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe. Publisher’s Weekly said: “A storyteller in the grand tradition, Edgecomb is a virtuoso of the spoken word, an entire cast rolled into one.” Her newest performance Channeling Rachel Carson explores the many ways we can bring a renewed sense of wonder to our lives and to our advocacy for the nature we love.
About the post-show workshop:

Sashiko Mending Workshop
Sashiko Mending Workshop
With Rachel Barclay
All Skill Levels Welcome
Materials Included
Sashiko Visible Mending, Patches & Garment Decoration
This workshop will highlight the act of mending and garment embellishment with Sashiko Japanese Embroidery. With humble beginnings in rural Japan, Sashiko’s running stitch insulated work garments for warmth and longevity. Moving into contemporary times around the globe, the bold, geometric beauty of Sashiko continues to both strengthen and decorate fabrics. Sashiko’s Geometric Patterns and Motifs are inspired by nature, architecture, and culture. Students will learn how to patch and repair a rip or hole, reinforce a worn area, and prepare their distressed textile in order to draw a Sashiko pattern of their choice.
Participants will employ the “small stabs” Sashiko stitching technique to repair or embellish their project! People may choose to simply stitch a patch with denim provided.
Bring in a couple items from home to assess for mending or decorating. Areas to repair should be no larger than four inches. Denim looks amazing with Sashiko stitching. Medium-weight, woven fabrics work well; such as cotton or linen shirts, pants, skirts or dresses. Cotton and linen home goods are also fun to mend. Please no sweaters, knits, shiny, silky, nor stretchy fabrics. Denim with a bit of Spandex is fine.
All tools and materials provided. Sashiko needles, colorful threads, patches, and take home pattern instructions.
All skill levels welcome from novice to veteran hand stitchers! Please be sure to wear your good reading glasses. Bring your own water bottle, hot beverage, and snack or lunch to sustain you while stitching! We will take a break halfway through our workshop.

As a performer and sideman, he has shared the bill with many top country and folk artists, including Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Asleep at the Wheel, Martin Sexton, Waylon Jennings, Arlo Guthrie & Pete Seeger. In 2011 he was selected as a finalist in the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Contest in Kerrville, TX, and has received honorable mentions from The UK Songwriting Contest, The Billboard Songwriting Contest, and the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest. He has also written songs that have aired on many hit television series such as Nashville, Touched by an Angel, Walker Texas Ranger, and CSI. Voices from the Kaleidoscope:: LGBTQ+ Artists Panel/Discussion
Artists Panel, Sunday, June 21 at 2pm Discussion, learn from several Local LGBTQ+ Artists what inspires them, evolution of their work, & the ways their queerness does & does not affect their work. Featuring: Autumn Phoenix, Jacob Clayton, Saemi, and Pops Peterson.
Jacob Clayton
Jacob Clayton uses photography, video, and mixed media to document the hidden curricula and systemic microaggressions regarding gender identity. "Words cannot adequately express what it’s like to go through life in the wrong body," Clayton notes. "Gazing into the lens of my own life’s complexities, my work is a journey to gather and assemble reclaimed pieces of a life lived for decades as a stealth transgender man and closeted gay man in America."
Autumn Phoenix
Autumn Phoenix, a professional photographer inspired by her grandfather's documentation of everyday life, uses unique lighting and vibrant color to capture meaningful moments that might otherwise go unnoticed, inviting viewers to reconnect with memory and emotion.
Pops Peterson
Pops Peterson, whose acclaimed series Reinventing Rockwell has been featured in the New York Times and on CBS Sunday Morning, brings a vision of modern inclusivity. "The real reward has been to see people come to tears viewing my work, telling me how I inspire them and offer hope for a more inclusive world."
Saemi, (not pictured) an NYC-based Korean lesbian photographer, brings over a decade of work that poetically explores emotion, creating narratives where delicate beauty and destruction coexist.

We are celebrating the summer season by welcoming old friends and new to this family-friendly event. Tickets are $20 for members and includes food and drinks (cash bar will be available). Coloring Class with Diane Pearl
Please Join us For This Fun and Exciting Workshop!
Instructed By: Diane Pearl
Following up with her group gallery presentation in “Form, Fact, and Fragment”, (May 28- June 21), Diane is offering an opportunity to have an introductory class to her world of her drawings and coloring, using black and white prints of her works as a basis. Come join her as she leads us in a meditative and creative exercise that brings us back to our earlier days when we first experienced coloring books. The curvilinear lines and contours are suggestions…you are given 3 prints to explore your possibilities, your colors, your own inner imagination. (You can also just turn them over for your designs). There is enough repetition in the design and flowing lines that following the contours can loosen your hand and comfortably be relaxing to you. Diane will be bringing Prismacolor Premium pencils (or bring your own favorite pens or pencils).

Mallorey Caron will guide you to unlocking the hidden colors and shapes of our natural plant surroundings in this hands-on Eco-Printing workshop.
Eco-printing (or botanical contact printing) is a sustainable art form where real leaves, flowers, and bark are bundled with fabric or paper and steamed to release their natural pigments.
Unlike synthetic dyes, eco-printing creates a direct "fingerprint" of the plant, resulting in one-of-a-kind, ethereal designs that celebrate the local flora of the Berkshires.
Hands-On Creation: You will leave with your own unique botanical printed silk scarf and the knowledge to continue your eco-printing journey at home.
Sustainability: This workshop focuses on environmentally friendly practices, using foraged materials and non-toxic processes.

Becket Moving Freestyle
Back by Popular Demand!
Delsie Dunn will again bring the music, some context and we move – sway – dance – explore stillness – release stress! No dance experience is necessary. We are all participants – we all can move!
There is something magical about getting together and moving in a way that is uniquely your own way. Explore… how music makes you feel, discover ways to move to that music, dance with intention, openness, moment to moment.. begin again. Let others inspire you to try to move in a different/new way for yourself with curiosity and playfulness.
What it’s not: performative, choreographed, someone telling you what to do/how to feel throughout the music set. We will all hold the space of non-judgement, acceptance, respect for self and others creating safety to be fully in the moment with music, yourself and others.
For me, as someone who has a long and varied experience with dance and movement since childhood – movement improvisation has brought me the most joy, insight and release!
10:30am – 11:00am - Conscious Movement Training/Warmup: Each session I will offer various methods of ways to access unchoreographed movement. Each week I will review the previous concept(s) and introduce a new method to explore. The final week will be a review of all the methods I’ve shared.
11:00am – 11:45am – Music for conscious movement – no talking/chatting during this time – connect through movement only. Shouting – Sounding – is totally okay.
11:45am – 12:00pm – closing, cool down, end with a circle to provide a listening for anyone who wishes to share their experience, insight, etc.
Guidelines:
1. No talking on the dance floor
2. Drug-Free, Smoke-Free, Alcohol-Free environment
3. No photos or videos, cellphones muted and out of sight
4. Respect for the space and for one another
5. Move your body however you wish!
6. You can move alone, or with partners – your choice.
What to Bring:
Loose-fitting clothes that let you move your body freely
Footwear: Dance barefoot, in socks or indoor soft soled shoes (to keep the floor clean of debris)
Water bottle
Small Towel

Reception & Live Launch: The Becket Stories Project
Guests are invited to a free reception celebrating the live launch of the Becket Stories Project — a permanent interactive archive and public story trail developed by the Becket Arts Center in collaboration with more than 20 members of the community.
Through stories and performances, the project captures the living experience of Becket — what it means to live here, work here, and visit. The story trail is open to the public and designed to deepen the connection between residents, visitors, and the community that calls Becket home.
A Dialogue Between Artists: Gregory Crewdson and Johnny Irion
The Becket Arts Center is proud to announce a special program featuring two of the Berkshires’ most celebrated artists, photographer Gregory Crewdson and musician Johnny Irion. The event will bring the two artists together for a candid, in-depth conversation about how life and landscape in the Berkshires shape and inspire their creative work.
Gregory Crewdson is one of America’s foremost photographers, internationally recognized for his cinematic, large-scale images of small-town American life. His work has been exhibited at major museums and galleries worldwide and has earned him a place among the most influential artists working today. Crewdson has long called the Berkshires home, and the region’s quiet beauty and complex character have profoundly informed his vision.
Johnny Irion is a nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter whose music weaves together folk, Americana, and storytelling rooted in a deep connection to place. Based in the Berkshires, Irion has built a devoted following through recordings and live performances that reflect both personal experience and a reverence for the natural world.
The event will offer audiences a rare opportunity to look, listen, and be inspired as Crewdson and Irion share stories from their creative lives, discuss the joys and challenges of making art, and explore what it means to draw sustenance from a particular corner of the world.
$15 per person - Proceeds from the program will benefit the Becket Arts Center, which has served as a cultural hub for the region for over 50 years, offering exhibitions, performances, workshops, and community programming.
