AN OPEN INVITATION FOR REFLECTION ON IMMANENCE
Within her continually evolving sculptural environment in the Art Center’s main upper gallery, Karen Dolmanisth offers an afternoon closing ceremony in collaboration with keyboard musician David Bartley. Situated in the Berkshire Hills, this monthlong, site-sensitive installation has invited visitors to slow down and experience its poetic spatial language of form, material, transformation, and changing autumn light.
Through deep listening and contemplative, ceremonial movement, Dolmanisth enters an improvised call-and-response dialogue with Bartley’s music. Her movement meditation explores relationships among Self, soul, psyche, and the attentive body; between inner awareness and the surrounding world. Gathered autumn leaves, berries, branches, and pine needles, local and regional waters, sand, and coastal seashells become participants in this unfolding exchange, alongside her hand-built, wood-fired and earthen pit-fired ceramic vessels, open spheres, and lunar orbs.
The performance invites shared reflection on immanence—the presence of the sacred within matter, within ourselves, and within the living relationships through which we encounter the world.
